Creating an Account
It's quick and easy. We've trimmed off all the extras from the old site for signing up - all you need is a username, password and valid email address.
Once you've entered these, we'll send you an email containing a link you need to click or visit to verify your email address is valid and activate your account.
If you use Hotmail, Yahoo or any of the other web-based mail services, the email we send may end up in your Junk or Spam mail folders, because these services obviously aren't discerning movie fans ;) Add talkfilm.co.uk to your friends list. We hate spam as much as you do, so won't be selling anything to anyone when it comes to your email address. But you may want to find any emails we send you should you forget your password :)

Submitting a Story
So you're back from the pub, your boss is out to lunch or you find yourself with a few spare minutes at the weekend. You browse your favourite sites on the world wide superinformation highway web, and happen across a film-related page.
Share it with us!
You'll need to include the URL (link) to the web page you want to submit, and add a title and short description (max 300 characters).
You can add an image to the story (.jpg please), or select the default Talk Film image (the swirly film... add an image of your own if you can :) ).
We'll check the URL you give is valid, and that the story doesn't already exist in the system.
If all goes well, congratulations, your story has been added to the Upcoming Stories page.
By default images need to be approved by a member of staff (yes, we know porn is a type of film, but no, we don't need pictorial evidence of it on this site as well as the millions of others that contain it... er... so we've been told...), so don't worry if your image doesn't appear with your story right away. It will. Normally.

Rating a Story
We really don't want to be telling you what we think you want to read. We want you to tell us what you want to read. This is why everything goes into the Upcoming stories section to start with.
You can rate a story by clicking the Rate this link under the story text. You'll be given the ability to score the story 0-5, 5 = excellent, 0 = I'd rather watch another film by Uwe Boll, as well as giving it a rating. These ratings can be used by other site members to get an idea of what people think of the story. Scores are fine, but we think it's more helpful to get a feel for what people think of the story too.
Once a story lands in the Upcoming section, it needs to match rating criteria set by us to be called popular and make it to the front page for the whole world to see.
Only members can see stories in the Upcoming section.
When the story matches the criteria, it gets moved to the Popular section and will be seen by everyone, not just site members. Don't worry, if you added a story 5 days ago and it makes the Popular section today, it will be displayed based on the time it gets promoted, not when it was added.
We think this is the best way to get interesting, informative, cool and funny stories to the front page - you decide what you want to see!

Commenting on a story
Comments can be added to stories in the Popular and Upcoming sections. Click the Post New Comment link, or Reply to this on an existing comment, and share your thoughts with us.
Comments can be rated in a similiar way to stories, and soon we'll be adding a filter system so you can choose the score/rating combination for comments you want to see.
We understand that film, like sport, can be an emotive subject, and people's passion for their favourite films can be high. But please, try and keep it polite, reasonably sane and not too much of a drunken rambling after you've watched Titanic with your missus and have been moved to tears by Jack letting go.
We are a lenient bunch here, so don't be afraid to say what you think - but we reserve the right to remove comments that we feel step over the line, and yes, this includes saying Speed 2 is the best film ever.

I still need help!!!
OK, first of all, if you are drunk, we hope you had a great time, but whatever it is you're trying to do can wait until tomorrow. Drink a pint of water and go sleep it off.
If you're sober and still need help, email us, be polite, be calm and be patient while we get back to you.
